PNP 2026: Why This Is the Best Year Yet for Provincial Nomination

If Express Entry alone feels out of reach, 2026 might be the year to take a serious look at the Provincial Nominee Program. Canada is targeting roughly 91,500 PNP admissions this year — a 66% increase over 2025 — spread across more than 80 active streams in ten provinces and territories.

Here’s why this expansion matters for candidates who’ve felt shut out of provincial streams in recent years:

More provinces are running more frequent draws. Ontario holds the largest allocation at close to 17,872 nominations, with a shift toward targeted, data-driven draws focused on physicians, healthcare workers, early childhood educators, and regional occupations outside Toronto. British Columbia has been running near-weekly targeted draws in tech, health, and trades. Manitoba, Alberta, and the Atlantic provinces have also expanded their allocations significantly.

A provincial nomination is still one of the strongest CRS boosts available. Under the Enhanced PNP stream (linked to Express Entry), a nomination adds 600 CRS points — effectively guaranteeing an invitation in the very next federal draw. Recent PNP-linked draws have shown just how powerful this is, with nominated candidates receiving invitations at CRS levels far above any standard federal cutoff.

Not every stream requires a job offer. Depending on the province and stream, some PNP pathways accept overseas applicants with no local job offer or prior work permit — something worth checking carefully against your own occupation and background.

One caveat worth flagging: fees are changing in some provinces. Nova Scotia, for example, introduced new non-refundable application fees for its Nominee Program worker and entrepreneur streams starting September 1, 2026 — a reminder that PNP rules shift by province and by month.

If Express Entry alone hasn’t worked out for you, a PNP pathway might be the missing piece. Book your free assessment and we’ll match your profile against the provinces where you have the strongest chance.
