Express Entry Draw Update: CRS Score Trends You Need to Know (September 2026)

Express Entry candidates got encouraging news this week. On September 1st, IRCC issued 2,000 invitations under the Canadian Experience Class, with a CRS cut-off of 521 — a slight improvement from 523 in the prior CEC round. For candidates who’ve been watching their scores creep just short of the cutoff, this kind of movement matters.

CEC remains competitive, but scores are trending slightly downward. That volume has kept the pool active, but CRS cutoffs for CEC candidates have consistently sat in the 507–523 range for most of the year.

Category-based draws remain a real opportunity for many candidates. While CEC gets the most attention, IRCC continues to run separate draws for French-language proficiency, healthcare, STEM, trades, education, and other priority occupations — often at dramatically lower CRS thresholds. If your profile fits one of these categories, you may have a faster path than the standard CEC route suggests.
