Skilled Workers - Express Entry / EOI

Express Entry is a system used by the Canadian government to manage applications for permanent residence under certain economic immigration programs. One of the key streams within Express Entry is the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), which is designed for skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently.

Here's how the Express Entry system generally works for skilled workers:

  1. Eligibility Check: Candidates must first determine if they meet the eligibility requirements for one of the federal economic immigration programs managed through Express Entry. This includes the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class.

  2. Expression of Interest: Eligible candidates create an online profile in the Express Entry system, providing information about their skills, work experience, language ability, education, and other relevant factors.

  3. Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score: Candidates are assigned a CRS score based on the information provided in their profile. The CRS score is calculated based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and other factors.

  4. Invitation to Apply (ITA): Periodically, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducts draws from the Express Entry pool, issuing Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates with the highest CRS scores. Those who receive an ITA have a specified time frame in which to submit a complete application for permanent residence.

  5. Submission of Application: Candidates who receive an ITA must submit a complete application for permanent residence, including supporting documents, within the specified time frame.

  6. Assessment and Decision: IRCC assesses the application to ensure that the candidate meets the eligibility requirements for the selected immigration program. This may include verification of documents, background checks, and medical exams.

  7. Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR): If the application is approved, the candidate receives a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and can then move to Canada as a permanent resident.
